Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed adopting a common currency similar to the EU's euro to increase trade and commerce among Muslim countries.
Sheikh Hasina said the purpose of the formation of the D-8 is to strengthen trade and commerce among the eight Muslim-majority countries, as well as to promote friendship to uplift the socioeconomic status of their populations.
The preferred focus was to implement a Preferred Trade Agreement (PTA) among the D-8 member countries and broaden the scope of its impact.
Sheikh Hasina said that this would be a good step to facilitate trade and commerce by the application of a common currency like the partner European currency.
Sheikh Hasina expressed concern over Myanmar's internal conflict and stressed the importance of their special role in trade and cooperation among D8 member states.
