  • Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed adopting a common currency similar to the EU's euro to increase trade and commerce among Muslim countries.
  • Sheikh Hasina said the purpose of the formation of the D-8 is to strengthen trade and commerce among the eight Muslim-majority countries, as well as to promote friendship to uplift the socioeconomic status of their populations.
  • The preferred focus was to implement a Preferred Trade Agreement (PTA) among the D-8 member countries and broaden the scope of its impact.
  • Sheikh Hasina said that this would be a good step to facilitate trade and commerce by the application of a common currency like the partner European currency.
  • Sheikh Hasina expressed concern over Myanmar's internal conflict and stressed the importance of their special role in trade and cooperation among D8 member states.
