Cuttack's renowned Chandi Tarakasi, known for its intricate silver filigree work, receives the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
Anita Sabat, a culture and GI researcher, emphasizes the need to include gold filigree work in the GI tag application to accurately represent Cuttack's Tarakasi tradition.
Filigree artisans in Odisha, particularly in Cuttack, craft exquisite jewellery and decorative items using silver wires, with the art thriving in various parts of the city.
The traditional art thrives in many parts of Cuttack like Bania Sahi, Jaunlia Pati, Mansingh Patna, Shaikh Bazar and Naya Sarak. The craft is showcased during Durga Puja when artisans make huge silver tableaux in gold and silver filigree.
