Ghana's parliament has passed a controversial bill aimed at upholding traditional family values and regulating human sexual rights, particularly targeting LGBTQ individuals.
The bill imposes strict penalties, including up to three years in prison for identifying with LGBTQ identities and up to five years for promoting or supporting LGBTQ activities, reflecting Ghana's conservative stance on LGBTQ rights.
The passage of this bill aligns with a broader trend across Africa, where many countries criminalize homosexuality. With 31 out of 54 African countries already criminalizing homosexuality, Ghana's bill underscores a continent-wide challenge to LGBTQ rights, highlighting the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ equality globally.
