Paradip Port Authority (PPA) achieved a remarkable milestone in January 2024, surpassing the 14 million metric tonnes (MMT) mark for the first time in the history of major ports in India by handling a record volume of monthly cargo.
PPA's monthly cargo throughput in January 2024 reached 14.32 MMT, surpassing the earlier record of 13.5 MMT achieved in March 2023.
The Port is expected to set up an all-time record cargo handling of over 145 MMT in the current financial year, aiming to become the leading port in the country for the first time since its inception.
Coal handling constitutes about 44.49% of the total cargo volume handled in the port, while iron ore and pellet cargo has seen a significant increase of 59.42%.
Paradip port has recorded 738 shipping movements.
