Two new coal mines commenced production in January 2024, boosting the total tally to 53 producing coal mines.
Out of the 53 mines, 33 cater to captive power consumption, 12 to captive consumption for the Non-Regulated Sector, and 8 for commercial coal sales.
January 2024 saw a notable year-on-year growth in coal production, reaching 14.30 MT, and dispatch, totaling 12.86 MT.
During the first ten months of FY 2023-24, coal production and dispatch from captive and commercial coal blocks surged to around 112 MT and 116 MT, respectively.
